UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION - HUMANITIES

The University Grants Commission (UGC) holds a national level test to determine the eligibility of Indian National candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships and eligibility for recruitment of Lecturers in Universities and Colleges in the Faculties of Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences, etc.

The award may be made to  candidates who qualify in this Test by the Universities / IITs in accordance with the procedure prescribed by them within the quota under various quality programmes. Similarly, the Universities/Colleges as per their prescribed procedure may make recruitment to the post of Lecturer from among qualified candidates.

Candidates appearing in the above test should clearly specify in item (1) of the application form whether they are a candidate for award of Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Lectureship or eligibility for Lectureship only. For both the options, selection criteria are the same. However, candidates qualifying exclusively for eligibility for Lectureship will not be considered for Junior Research Fellowship.

The UGC Test for Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Lectureship is currently held twice a year normally in June and December.

Value of Fellowship
Candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowships will be eligible to receive UG Fellowship under various schemes.

The value of the fellowship is at present Rs.5000/- p.m. This is governed by the terms and conditions as laid down by the UGC. SC/ST candidates may be given such special consideration as may be decided by the Commission. Candidates who qualify in the test for eligibility for Lectureship will be governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Lecturers of the Universities / Colleges / State Governments, etc.
