INDIAN ENGINEERING SERVICES
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts this examination in June every year.
The IES comprise Group A Services/Posts and Group B Services/ Posts in 4 categories - Civil, Mechanical,
Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering.
EXAM DETAILS
Part I
The written examination comprises of two sections: Section I consisting of only objective-type
questions and Section II of conventional papers. Both sections will cover the entire syllabus of the relevant Engineering
disciplines, i.e., Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
The standard of papers will approximately be that of an Engineering Degree Examination of an Indian University.
The syllabus is indicated in the Notice of the Examination, normally published in December of the year previous to the year of examination.
Part II
Personality Test, carrying a maximum of 200 marks, for candidates who qualify on the basis of the written examination.
