COUNCIL OF SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH - UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research holds national level joint CSIR-UGC Examination (NET) normally twice every year, one in June and another in December. The actual date of Examination and other details are published in the Employment News and candidates intending to appear should, therefore, watch for the announcement.

This examination is to determine the eligibility of Indian Nationals for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and for appointment of Lecturers in Science and Arts subjects.

Different States accredited by the UGC conduct State Level Eligibility Tests (SLET) for the same purpose. The syllabus is more or less the same for NET & SLET.

Value of Fellowship
The value of the fellowship is currently Rs. 5000/- per month, which will be governed by the terms and conditions as laid down by the CSIR or UGC. SC/ST and OBC applicants may be given such special consideration as per the decision of the Coordination Committee.

Candidates who qualify in the test for Lectureship will be governed by the rules and regulations for recruitment of Lecturers of the Universities/Colleges/State Governments etc.

The starting pay package recommended by the UGC for College lecturers has been recently revised and is now around Rs. 14000/-per month. However, the scale varies from State to State.
